MIST Suzuki Racing 2011
MIST Suzuki Racing are pleased to be able to announce their exciting new plans for the coming season. From their first learning year in the European SuperStock championship back in 2006 the team has continually shown their form with regular points scoring finishes in every season in every class, culminating in race wins and lap records British SuperBike Evo Championship last year.
The original goal for 2011 was to race a full season in the British SuperBike championship but with the team keen to continue their steep learning curve another option came to mind. Having previously raced in the World SuperBike paddock for three years, the team has held discussions with the organisers and have been offered the chance to compete in a number of rounds in either the World SuperBike or World SuperSport championship during the season.
Team Manager Mike Edwards was delighted, “The whole team are really excited about this opportunity and are looking forward to putting everything we have learnt over the past five seasons in to practice. We are confident that we can put on a good showing and racing in such a high profile series is sure to help us build new relationships with partners looking to move to the world stage”.
The focus is to initially aim for four rounds over the Summer months with tentative dates including 8th May (Monza, Italy), 19th June (Spain, Aragon), 10th July (Brno, Czech Republic) and 31st July (Silverstone, UK). There are also options of 4th September (Nurburgring, Germany) or even 16th October (Portimao, Portugal) although given the time of year the weather can sometimes be a little challenging.
Although the team will be competing on a round by round basis the series does attract a yearly global television audience of 404 million viewers, some 332 million of which are based across Europe. Even in the UK there are more viewers watching World SuperBikes than British SuperBikes, with some excellent coverage on EuroSport 2. A review of the available spectator figures show the demographics to the between 70% male with 58% between the ages of 25 and 44 (2010 figures) and 66% male with 54% between the ages of 25 and 44 (2007 data).
There are two rounds hosted in the UK each year with over 60,000 people attending each event and a further nine elsewhere in Europe. There is also a very strong British following, particularly at the rounds held in the Netherlands and in France, with a a total audience of 76,000 and 81,000 respectively. The demographics for the on site spectators are very similar to the television statistics. As a British team there would be additional mainstream and specialist press coverage during the season also.
We have been lucky enough to be able to retain all the members of our team from the 2010 season, including our excellent electronics technician. For 2011 we will be looking for a new suspension specialist to work with us and, of course, the search for sponsorship continues unabated.
